Journal Entry for January 21, 2000

We had the doors upstairs hung day-before yesterday. They're not the oldey-worldey pine ones, but they are new ones made extaclty like them. Funny how we thought doors would make the smallish rooms look too tiny, but now that they're up we think they make the area look better.

Now the plasterers have touched up the kitchen and leftover bits. Also our "bamboo" wooden-type flooring is going down in the old bathroom (It's really a new bathroom by now!). Rod expects to finish in about a week. He's just gotta put down the paving slabs around the side of the house, try and repiar the driveway where the skip-loader has left agaping craters behind it (^; lots of other little things, but they go quickly now. Just little bits and peices after the kitchen cupboards are put up where the kitchen has been enlarged, really. We haven't taken as many photos during this last stage, we're just getting a bit less enthusiastic soemtimes. I've cleaned a milimeter of dust/sand/debree off the entire area of the kitchen floor in about four times of mopping it on my hands and knees (I prefer doing it that way to using a mop, but usually don't do it so regularly!)

As soon as Rod finished an area enough to use, we moved right into the territory (Lounge table and chairs are used everyday, even though the real floor won't go on top of the concrete til February--a separate job from the extension). The washroom is fully functional, with the freezer and two washingmachines installed and running. We have a kitchen-type work-surface put in, and will put large overhead cupboards to hide away the piled-up-washing sometime in the future. The oldy-worldy-style wooden door which used to go into the semi-outdoor toilet has been moved to our new and completed downstairs toilet. It's small, and needs tiles on the floor, but it's finished and works fine. Lucy really likes the way the door came up when dipped to strip it of it's old paint. We'll varnish it with antique pine someday. The stairs are probably our favorite suprise for a while. I'll put up a photo rather than explain it much--suffice to say you can see more lovely wood-grain, and it goes well with the blue carpet too. The front new bedroom is carpeted, decorated and occupied by Matt--a friend who just finished his degree at Cambridge and is working for the church this year. The back "spare" new bedroom is 3/4th's decorated (all of the upstairs are carpeted really nicely) and serving nicely as a junk-room for now. The upstairs guest bathroom needs decorating, but has a really cool "mixer-tap" sink and our old shower, etc.

      Still, no new

extension photos yet...

Weight
Time to get back into it with a vengance.  I'm not loosing any at the moment, but at least I'm not gaining either.  What will be the next cut to go the next step down in weight?  Gotta get much further along before the summer tho.  (Just a goal to keep in sight--no one will see me in a bikini regardless.

Work
We moved into our new building here at work.  I'm trying to push things so I get a chance to do some Oracle stuff, also keep from getting too rusty in Unix.  So easy to get swamped with more pressing, but less useful requests.
